A 17th Century gate leg oak table of real high quality. The workmanship and the type of wood are rather exquisite and show that it would have originated from a very fine house indeed.
As fashions changed and the desire for more exotic timber came about, this fine table would have been relegated from the main house to the servants quarters or outhouses.
This is where the story gets very exciting. Some time during the mid 19th Century when seances were very fashionable among the Victorian upper classes our little table became adapted and carved for that very purpose.
With gravestones carved all around the top, there are also carvings on the legs that must mean something.
I can only wonder in awe about the people that sat around this little table throughout its life.
It’s a real special piece indeed.
